Vol. 253 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois School.

68.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the national school at Morette in the Parish of Emo, County Laois, was closed down some time ago; that transport facilities were to be provided in order to take the children who were attending this school to Emo national school; that to date the promised transport arrangements have not been provided; if he will explain the reason why the arrangements are not in operation; and if he will now arrange that CIE operate a service as a matter of urgency.

Grants were withdrawn from Morette NS as from 1st July, 1966. At that time none of the children in the school district lived more than 1¾ miles from a neighbouring suitable school and the question of the provision of a school transport service did not arise.

I may add that in response to representations recently made to me in the matter of the provision of school transport for this area application forms were issued. On receipt of the completed forms the question will be considered whether the provision of a school transport service would be warranted in accordance with the regulations.
