Vol. 253 No. 1

Written Answers. - Estate Duty Form.

112.

asked the Minister for Finance why a space was not set aside in the new estate duty form A for the insertion of the reference number of the applicant or his solicitors; if this omission will be made good in future prints of that form and other estate duty forms; and, if not, why.

The form referred to is prescribed by the Revenue Commissioners for use in applications for grants of probate or letters of administration, and becomes a public document in the Probate Office of the High Court on the issue of the grant. It does not therefore seem appropriate to make provision for the insertion of reference numbers which are not strictly relevant to the ultimate function of the document. However, I see no objection to the adoption of the Deputy's suggestion if it serves a useful purpose for applicants or their solicitors, and I have asked the Revenue Commissioners to bear it in mind when this and similar forms are being reprinted.
