Vol. 253 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

60.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding approved water schemes at (a) Emly and (b) Cullen, County Tipperary.

These group water supply schemes commenced last month and are proceeding very satisfactorily.

In the case of the Emly scheme, 185 grants of £60 each were allocated and 33 of these have already been paid. In addition, the county council were requested on 31st March, 1971, to issue to the group an instalment of £1,520 of their special contribution towards the cost of increased pipe sizes.

In the case of the Cullen scheme, 86 grants of £60 each were allocated on 30th March, 1971. Of these, 29 grants have now been paid. The county council were requested on 22nd April to issue an instalment of £3,050 from their special contribution towards the cost of increased pipe sizes in the scheme.

61.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding proposed group water schemes at (a) Dundrum, (b) Skeheenarinka and (c) Ballyhickey, County Tipperary.

The present position regarding these schemes is as follows:—

Dundrum: The engineer engaged by the group is preparing a design for the scheme.

Skeheenarinka: A formal proposal for a scheme in this area has not been received in my Department. I understand, however, that in response to local requests likely sources to serve houses in the area are being investigated by my Department's inspector and county council engineers.

Ballyhickey: While no formal proposal for a scheme in this area has been received in my Department, I understand that my Department's inspector attended a preliminary meeting locally to discuss a scheme for the area. A further meeting has been arranged for 29th April, 1971.

62.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason why he will not allow inspectors of group water schemes to attend meetings of the Cork County Council to discuss schemes of mutual interest.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 66 of 4th June, 1970, in this regard.
