Vol. 253 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Low Cost Houses.

59.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made towards the formulation of a policy for the provision of low cost houses; and when a decision will be made in the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my detailed statement in reply to Deputy Seán Moore's Question, No. 102, of the 4th February last, on this subject. I expect that pilot schemes will be started soon in Dublin, Galway and Clare. Arrangements are also being made for the provision in a number of places throughout the country of prototypes of certain industrialised forms of houses with which local authorities are not familiar. In the meantime, a programme is being compiled, in co-operation with the housing authorities, of schemes where it is hoped to take advantage over the next few years of proposals submitted under the low cost project.
