Vol. 253 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford School.

31.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the grave discontent of the parents of pupils attending Clongeen national school, County Wexford, on account of the very poor condition of the school premises; and what progress, if any, has been made with the proposal to erect a new school.

The position in this case is that my Department have sanctioned a grant towards the provision of a new school comprising four classrooms and a general purposes room.

Because of the very heavy school building programme on hands at the present time, it was necessary to establish a priority list. The position of Clongeen school on that list is such that it is hoped that building operations may commence in about a year's time.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what will happen in the meantime?

Works were undertaken on this school last year and the position is not as urgent as it is elsewhere.
