asked the Taoiseach if he will give details of the total number currently employed in Irish industry; and how many are self-employed.

The latest estimate of the total number of persons at work in the manufacturing industry sector is 220 thousand, and relates to mid-April, 1970. The number of self-employed in this total is not available. In the April, 1966 Census of Population, where the total number of persons at work in manufacturing industries was 198.4 thousand, some 8.8 thousand persons returned themselves as own-account workers or employers.
