Vol. 253 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Dublin General Hospital.

11.

asked the Minister for Health what progress, if any, has been made towards providing a general hospital for the north Dublin city area.

In line with the recommendations in the report of the Consultative Council on the General Hospitals Services, I have made an order under the Health (Corporate Bodies) Act, 1961, setting up a board representative of the former Dublin Health Authority and the boards of the Mater Misericordiae, St. Laurence's and Jervis Street hospitals to develop a general hospital at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown. Initially 120 general hospital beds will be provided and plans for necessary building alterations to facilitate the working of this unit are at an advanced stage of development. It is hoped that it will be possible to admit patients to the general hospital unit about the end of next month.
