asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any grant was recently made by the Industrial Development Authority towards a proposed joint venture at Labbadish alcohol factory, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement in the matter.

A grant has not been made for a joint project at Labbadish, County Donegal. The Industrial Development Authority were involved with an American company investigating a joint venture with Ceimicí Teoranta at Labbadish. Due to a change in the world market for the product, however, the company found it necessary to postpone the project indefinitely. The situation is being kept under review, in case the prospects for the project may improve again in the future.
Ceimicí Teoranta are constantly concerned to provide additional full-time employment in their Labbadish factory Several possible projects have been considered during the past few years, and certain new possibilities are currently being evaluated.
I take it that the Department are in constant contact with the foreign company who are interested?
Yes.
And that the company are in contact with the Department?
Yes; contact is being kept up and, as I have indicated, certain other possibilities are being evaluated also.
