Vol. 254 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit.

17.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit has not yet been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Meath.

There is no trace of a claim for unemployment benefit from the person named by the Deputy in his question. A claim for disability benefit was, however, received and it is assumed that this is the claim to which the Deputy refers.

When a woman marries she is disqualified from receiving certain benefits, including disability benefit, until 26 employment contributions have been paid subsequent to her marriage. In the case of the person referred to by the Deputy in the question this condition was not satisfied. Her social insurance cards contained 26 stamps in respect of weeks after her marriage but as one of these stamps had been affixed in respect of a week subsequent to the termination of her employment due to illness on 19th October, 1970, it was not properly payable and was disallowed. Accordingly, only 25 valid employment contributions had been paid in respect of the claimant subsequent to her marriage and she did not, therefore, qualify for benefit.

Would she have qualified if the 26th stamp had been correct?
