asked the Minister for Health if he will state in respect of each of the years 1960 and 1970 the total number of deaths from lung cancer in (a) males and (b) females.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. I should explain that the figures which are given in the statement in respect of malignant neo-plasms of the trachea, bronchus and lung are those, which in accordance with the Code of International Classification Revision 1968, are regarded as cancer of the lung. Prior to 1968, deaths from cancer of the lung included deaths from malignant neo-plasms of larynx and malignant neo-plasms of other and unspecified respiratory organs, and I have given these figures separately in respect of 1950 and 1960 in the table which I am circulating for comparison purposes.
