Vol. 254 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford City Health Clinic.

9.

asked the Minister for Health when work will commence on the new health clinic at Newgate Street, Waterford city; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Approval in principle was given to the acceptance of a tender for the provision of the new health clinic subject to the submission of certain necessary additional technical documentation. The completion of the necessary preliminaries is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board.

This is a long-awaited clinic and I see no reason for any further delay. I feel that it is only some departmental delaying procedures that are holding it up.

If the Deputy inquires from the officers of the South Eastern Health Board he will find that certain matters have to be discussed at health board level before this clinic can proceed to be constructed.

I was a member of the board in 1963. This clinic was mooted then. It is now seven years later. I do not see why there should be further delay.

Considerable time has been taken, I admit.
