Vol. 255 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Wage Agreement.

42.

asked the Minister for Labour whether he has any comment to make on the present standing of the national wage agreement; and whether talks with the ICTU are planned.

I do not think it would be appropriate for me to comment at this stage on the standing of the national agreement. I should, however, like to say again that it is in the interest of all our people that the agreement should be fully implemented in both the letter and the spirit.

I have no plans at present to hold talks with the ICTU about the agreement, nor have ICTU sought discussions with me on the matter. The agreement itself provides for the parties to it to meet in January next for review discussions.
