asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what formal or informal committees are at present in existence in his Department; the terms of reference of such committees; when they were set up; the cost to date; and when it is expected that the reports of such committees will be available.

As the information required by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

STATEMENT showing Committees in existence in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs on 29th June, 1971, the terms of reference of such Committees, when they were set up, the cost to date, and when it is expected that the reports of such Committees will be available.

Advisory Committee on Interference with Wireless Telegraphy

To advise on the making of regulations for controlling interference with the working of apparatus for wireless telegraphy.

These are standing advisory committees which do not issue reports.

Stamp Design Advisory Committee

1. To advise the Minister in regard to new designs for the permanent series of postage stamps and for such special stamps as may be issued from time to time.

6th July, 1970

£6 approx.

2. To procure suitable designs, as required, by advertisement or otherwise and to recommend the most suitable designs.

Committee on Postal Services.

1. To consider the structure, operation and finance of the postal service including counter services.

17th Sept., 1970

It is not possible at this stage to say when a report will be available.

2. In particular, to consider what changes are practicable and acceptable in the pattern or standards of postal services to enable them to be operated more efficiently or economically.

3. To arrange, where necessary, for studies by economists or other experts in relation to matters arising from (1) and (2) and for market research or other surveys to ascertain probable public attitudes to changes under consideration.

4. To report and make recommendations regarding future policy.

Broadcasting Review Committee.

To review the progress of the television and sound broadcasting services since the enactment of the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, with particular reference to the objectives prescribed in that Act, and to make any recommendations considered appropriate in regard to further development of the services.
