Vol. 255 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballsbridge (Dublin) Sorting Office.

80.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if plans have been finalised for the provision of new premises to replace the existing sorting office at Ballsbridge, Dublin.

The answer is "No." Two proposals are at present under consideration and I am reasonably hopeful that one or other of them will provide a solution to the problem of overcrowding at Ballsbridge Sorting Office.

May I ask the Minister if he is aware that certainly for a decade—much more in fact—there has been very considerable concern about the inadequacy of the existing office in Ballsbridge and that one gets highly embarrassed at having to repeat such questions? I notice Deputy Moore is now putting down questions in relation to the sorting office in Ballsbridge. Can the Minister give any indication as to when it will be built? We now seem to have two alternative sets of plans in hands? Will this be built, or sanctioned, or set out for tender, in the current financial year?

The Deputy can rest assured that the Department of Posts and Telegraphs are more than anxious to put an end to the problem which has been in existence, not for a decade as the Deputy suggests, but since 1968, in the Ballsbridge area.
