Vol. 255 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Achill Island Benefits.

72.

Mr. J. Lenehan

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the fact that Achill has been designated as an island within the terms of the social welfare regulations, steps will be taken to have it regarded as an island for special benefits under other schemes, including that for the reduction of rates.

Under the Local Government (Rates) Act, 1970, local authorities have power to adopt schemes to waive all or part of the rates liability of people for whom payment would involve hardship.
