Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Married Soldier Transfers.

48.

asked the Minister for Defence if the necessary steps will be taken to ensure that, when a married soldier is transferred to another station where married quarters are not provided, he will be recouped the cost of single quarters and rations as in the case of a married officer who is similarly transferred.

The arrangements designed to alleviate hardship arising out of separation from family on the occasion of transfer of station, are broadly the same for married soldiers as for married officers, and the same conditions apply. The provision of free rations and accommodation would be part of these arrangements for such married soldiers if living in barracks and the question of recoupment of cost should not accordingly arise.
