Vol. 255 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Hospital Proposals.

11.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of proposals submitted to his Department concerning improvements at St. Joseph's Hospital, Clonmel; Our Ladies Hospital, Cashel; St. Vincent's Hospital, Tipperary; St. Bridget's Hospital, Carrick-on-Suir; St. Theresa's Hospital, Clogheen and St. Patrick's Hospital, Cashel; and when sanction will be given to the proposals.

I understand that the chief executive officer for the area administered by the South Eastern Health Board has submitted a report to the board outlining the various proposals for hospital improvement schemes and new building works which come under the aegis of the board and that the board is at present considering the different issues which the report raises. The chief executive officer makes it clear in his report that the proposals will need to be reviewed so as to clarify whether alternative courses of action might be more appropriate in certain instances. It will also be evident from the information supplied by the chief executive officer as to the estimated total capital cost involved in the schemes and the constraints imposed by the limitation of funds available for capital development that a system of priorities will have to be established. I hope to be in touch with the health board in the early future in regard to the matter generally

In so far as details of the different proposals are concerned, the Deputy will be in a position to obtain them directly from the board.
