Vol. 255 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mutton and Lamb Sales.

15.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether existing EEC policies will permit the free sale of Irish mutton and lamb in EEC countries without quantitative restrictions, quotas or tariffs after Irish entry to the Community; and, if not, what steps he is taking in the negotiations to eliminate any barriers that may exist to this country's mutton and lamb exports to these countries.

We have agreed with the Community in the negotiations that the customs duties on mutton and lamb shall be eliminated as between the member States of the enlarged EEC in five equal steps over the transitional period of five years.

The elimination of quantitative and any other restrictions on intra-Community trade will be abolished when a common organisation of the market for sheep and lambs has been established for the Community.
