Vol. 255 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Spirits.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if any decision has been reached under the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement concerning the importation of British and Scotch whisky and other spirits after July, 1971; and, if so, the nature of the decision.

The differential between the customs duty on spirits of United Kingdom origin, including Scotch whisky, and the excise duty on Irish spirits was due for removal on or before 1st July, 1971, in accordance with Article IV of the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement. However, the removal of the differential has been the subject of consultations with the British authorities and the matter is still under consideration.
