Vol. 255 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School.

19.

asked the Minister for Education if he has examined the proposals submitted to him by the deputations he received some months ago in connection with the proposed State comprehensive school for Tarbert, County Kerry; and, if so, the decision he has come to on the matter.

The pressure of other business has precluded me from completing my re-examination of this matter following submissions by deputations from Glin and Tarbert. I hope to be in a position to announce my decision in the near future. The Deputy will, of course, appreciate, however, that the many demands on the available capital for school building will mean that the project will have to take its place on the priority list.

I should like to appeal to the Minister to make his decision on this proposal as quickly as possible. In view of the fact that Kerry County Council got a guarantee from the former Minister for Education that this school would be located at Tarbert I am sure that when the Minister is making his decision he will decide that the location of this comprehensive school will be at Tarbert.

I shall take every factor into consideration.
