Vol. 256 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Employment Exchange.

81.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of people from the Ballyfermot area, Dublin, signing on at the employment office, Werburgh Street, at the latest available date.

The number was 693 on the 18th October, 1971.

82.

asked the Minister for Labour if, in view of the great expense and serious inconvenience incurred by residents of the Ballyfermot area, Dublin, because they have to sign on at the Werburgh Street employment office he will consider the establishment of an employment office in the Ballyfermot area.

Men from Ballyfermot who sign at Werburgh Street employment office normally have to attend there twice a week. I am not convinced that this requirement involves unreasonable expense or inconvenience.

A review of the general arrangements for signing on, including those in the Dublin area, has been proceeding for some time past. Apart from the question of the convenience of the public, such issues as safeguarding public funds and administrative efficiency are involved.

Would the Minister have any idea what the bus fare is from Ballyfermot to Werburgh Street Exchange?

God knows, I have not a clue.

I do not think there is any direct bus at all.

I think there is.
