Vol. 258 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Schools.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position in regard to the improvements to be carried out to Rathmore National School. Athboy, County Meath.

A grant towards the cost of providing sanitary accommodation and a heating system at this school has been sanctioned. The reverend manager is being asked to have a well sunk for the purpose of providing a suitable water supply. When this is available the improvement works will be put in hands.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state when proposals were first submitted to the Office of Public Works in relation to the erection of a new national school at Castlejordan, County Meath; the action taken in relation to these proposals since then; and when building is likely to commence.

A grant towards the cost of the erection of this five-class room school was sanctioned by the Department of Education in June, 1969. Working drawings and specification for the new building prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works had to be modified to meet the requirements of the planning authority. Amended drawings were issued for the necessary approval on the 25th of last month. When formal planning approval has been obtained and when the Commissioners are satisfied that an adequate supply of water is available, bills of quantities will be prepared with a view to the invitation of tenders. I am not at present in a position to say when building is likely to commence but the project will be expedited as much as possible.
