Vol. 259 No. 15

Written Answers. - Dundalk Road Surface.

83.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the surface of the national primary route from Dublin to Belfast within the urban borough of Dundalk is in bad condition, principally at both ends of the town; when the last 100 per cent grants were given, and at what figure, for work on this route in that local authority area; if a 100 per cent grant will be given before the end of the financial year and, if so, for how much; and if a grant will be given during the financial year 1972-73.

I am aware that an on-going programme of road improvements, including resurfacing, is being carried out on this route by Dundalk Urban Council. Grants approved in the current year amount to £49,600 and a further £52,500 has been allocated for 1972-73. It is expected that works to be carried out next year will include the resurfacing of a further section of road at the northern end of the town. The preparation of a further scheme of improvement works at the southern end is under consideration by the urban council.
