Vol. 261 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Relations Report.

25.

asked the Minister for Labour the date on which his Department requested a report on industrial relations from a study group of An Comh-Chomhairle Chorcaí of Fianna Fáil; the contents of the original communication from his Department to this organisation; the cost, if any, of the report to the Department; and if he will place a copy of this report in the Oireachtas Library.

In May, 1971, Comh-Chomhairle Chorcaí indicated that they proposed, as part of their programme, to establish study groups to investigate subjects of interest to Government Department. In so far as my Department was concerned, I accepted their offer to study the subject of industrial relations.

I am at present considering the study group's report. No expenditure has been incurred by my Department in connection with the report.

What about putting it in the Oireachtas Library?

As I said, the Minister is considering this at the moment. I could not say in advance what will be the result of his consideration.

Do you think he will?

I would not like to anticipate his decision.

I am sure he would be ashamed to.

Why does the Deputy say that? Here is a group of people who voluntarily are doing a worthwhile job. Why should they not get credit for it? Is it because they are connected in some way with Fianna Fáil that they do not get credit?

Why not put it in the Library?

I did not say it would not be put in the Library. The Deputy made a remark which seemed to me to be casting aspersions on it because he said the Minister would be ashamed to do so. If this group had been connected in any way with anybody other than the Fianna Fáil Party Deputies over there would be telling us how good it was to have people voluntarily doing worthwhile work like this.

From altruistic motives, of course.
