Vol. 261 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kennedy Memorial.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the committee to consider the question of the provision of the Kennedy Memorial has been discontinued.

The all-party committee has not been discontinued and can be reconvened at any time. As indicated in reply to previous questions relating to the Kennedy Memorial Hall, I hope to submit certain proposals to the Government at an early date. I will, of course, advise the committee of the Government's decision.

Will the Minister agree that whatever proposals are mentioned in this respect there should be no further building up in the area of the Phoenix Park?

No further what?

No further plans for development in the Phoenix Park, and that as much open space as possible should be left—that it would be a mistake to build any memorial hall in the Phoenix Park.

I would not, in fact, agree——

Is there any conflict between the Minister's proposals and that idea?

I would not agree with that view, subject to certain reservations. It is an academic question at the moment and not one that I need to pursue.

When will the committee meet again? I will not quote from Macbeth about thunder, lightning and rain.

As I have indicated, when the Government decision has been taken it will be communicated to members of the committee. Whether a meeting is necessary at that time will have to be considered in the light of the circumstances then prevailing.

The committee has not been disbanded?
