Vol. 263 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Staffing.

9.

asked the Minister for Health if he will list the county hospitals in which one doctor is in charge of medical and maternity work; whether he is satisfied with this arrangement; and the action he intends taking in the matter.

The hospitals in this category are the county hospitals at Dundalk, Clonmel, Bantry, Mallow, Nenagh, Ennis, Roscommon and Portlaoise. The position has been kept under review in my Department and obstetrician/gynaecologists have been appointed where the volume of work justified such appointments. The question of further extension of the obstetrical/gynaecological specialist services is now a matter primarily for Comhairle na nOspidéal who have responsibility for considering all proposals for consultant appointments.
