Vol. 265 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waste Disposal.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider introducing legislation with a view to dealing effectively with pollution by waste oil from industrial sources and with the disposal of used motor oil.

I have already announced that I am arranging for a general examination to be made of the local authority waste disposal services with a view to their improvement. The question of the need for additional statutory or other measures in relation to disposal of particular kinds of waste will be kept under review. As regards the water pollution aspects of the matter I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 68 on 3rd May, 1973.

How soon does the Minister anticipate having any positive proposals to put before the House on this very serious question?

I should like to see it done very quickly but I cannot say when it will be possible to do it. The earliest we could expect is next session. I would not expect to have anything on it during this session.
