Vol. 266 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Sorting Office.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it is proposed to provide a new postal sorting office at Ballsbridge, Dublin.

As stated in reply to a previous question by the Deputy on 8th June, 1972, my Department have agreed to lease accommodation for a new sorting office in an office block which a private developer proposes to erect at Ballsbridge. Work had actually commenced on the project in April last when it was discovered that part of the ground on which it was planned to build the office block did not belong to the developer but was State owned.

The developer has now applied for planning permission for a revised scheme. He is also in consultation with the Commissioners of Public Works about the possibility of acquiring the State owned plot of ground so that the original scheme could proceed. In the circumstances it is not possible to give a reliable forecast of when the sorting office will be available but the developer expects that it will be ready about eight months after work commences.
