Vol. 266 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Broadcasting Review Committee Report.

36.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has received the second interim report from the Broadcasting Review Committee; and, if so, if he is prepared to allow more than 500 television connections per masthead in the Ballyfermot area.

I received the report in question on 31st May. When it has been studied I shall make an announcement about policy in relation to the limit of 500 connections per cable television system.

We have a number of large housing estates such as Ballyfermot. As I understand it, from the technical point of view there is no reason why there should not be more than 500 connectons in each area. Would the Parliamentary Secretary explain why this limit is being adhered to? It was done also in the days of the previous administration.

As I indicated in my reply, when the report has been studied an announcement will be made. The report was received only a week ago.

Is it intended to make the report public so that other people can make judgments on it?

I am not in a position to tell the Deputy.

Will he convey this to the Minister?

Certainly.

I am convinced this report should be made public and I urge on the Parliamentary Secretary to convey these views to the Minister.
