Vol. 266 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Industries.

14.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans in his Department for the allocation of new industries to Tralee, County Kerry.

Mr. R. Burke

It is not the practice for my Department or the Industrial Development Authority to allocate new industries to any particular location; the choice of location for any project is a matter primarily for the principals in it.

I understand from the Industrial Development Authority that discussions in regard to one project for Tralee, which would give employment to 63 persons, are at an advanced stage, and that they also have on hands five other inquiries for Tralee from industrial promoters.

Surely the Minister and the Government have the final say as to whether an IDA grant will be made available and, if that is so, will the Minister take into consideration the reason why a firm from South Africa, about which we have read so much, might be located here? Is it that they are expecting cheap labour here or is it just the grant?

Mr. R. Burke

I am on Question No. 14.

I beg the Minister's pardon.
