Vol. 266 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South African Firms.

16.

asked the Minister for industry and Commerce if the Government intend to provide grants to South African firms that may wish to establish operations in Ireland.

Mr. R. Burke

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they have no applications from South African firms under consideration at present and do not intend to seek such applications. In planning to meet their target of 16,000 jobs in the present year the authority have not envisaged, or provided for, a contribution from firms in South Africa.

If a firm from South Africa were to submit a proposal for a project a decision as to whether grant assistance would be provided would be taken in the light of all relevant circumstances.
