Vol. 266 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Museum Service.

29.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the document Museum Service for Ireland published by the Institute of Professional Civil Servants and the recommendations of that body concerning branch museums, staff, administration and accommodation; and if he will state the proposals of the Government for the implementation of these recommendations.

The publication in question was presented to me at a Press conference on 20th June, 1973.

I gave an assurance on that occasion that the suggestions and recommendations contained in the document will be very carefully considered.

This consideration will be conducted in the context of long-term plans for the development of the National Museum.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary give an indication as to when we might expect some action on this document?

As the Deputy appreciates, this document was only presented to us on the 20th of June of this year. It is a little early yet to start setting deadlines for action on the pretty specific proposals made in this document.
