Vol. 266 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Schools.

3.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a post-primary school in St. Paul's Parish, Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

4.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the acute position regarding post-primary facilities in the area, he will now consider sanctioning the extension to the Presentation Convent, Waterford.

Mr. R. Burke

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 3 and 4 together.

My Department has plans for the provision of a community school in the Lisduggan area—which includes St. Paul's parish—to cater for the post-primary needs of the boys and girls in the area. The site which has been allocated for this project is some distance from existing housing developments and efforts are being made to acquire a site more conveniently located in relation to existing housing. The request for additional accommodation in the Presentation Convent must be considered in the context of the proposed new school as the convent at present caters for the girls from this area.
