The document referred to by the Deputy comments on a communication dated 20th March, 1973, from the EEC Commission to the Council on the adaptation of the economic policy guidelines for the member states for 1973. The guidelines for Ireland recommended that, given our low degree of utilisation of production capacities, measures to support economic activity should remain the chief ingredient of short-term economic policy in the months ahead and that, to this end, public and private investment should be encouraged through an appropriate monetary and budget policy. The recent budget was quite clearly in accord with these guidelines.
