Vol. 267 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deserted Wives' Allowance.

77.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will equate women whose marriages have been annulled by the Catholic Church with deserted wives for allowance purposes.

A church annulment does not, of itself, affect entitlement to the deserted wives' allowance. If the Deputy has a particular case in mind I will arrange to have it examined on receipt of the necessary details.

Thank you. I do not want to bring in the question of State recognition of the annulment of Catholic marriages. I have a particular case in mind.
