Vol. 268 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Housing.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on the proposed local authority housing scheme at Grange, Douglas, County Cork; and the reason for the present delay.

I am not in a position to say when work on this scheme will be commenced. Design documents were approved by me last May. The invitation of tenders is a matter for the housing authority.

Is the Minister aware of the urgent need for housing in the Douglas area of Cork? Will he use his good offices to push the scheme and to find out where the delay is and why tenders have not been invited?

Without any disrespect to the Deputy, surely this is a matter for the local members who should ask the local council why they have not submitted the scheme to the Department for sanction.

Is the Minister aware of certain problems in Cork at the moment?

I am not aware of problems with regard to housing. It is in everybody's interest to get housing going.

Is the Minister aware of problems that may prevent that happening in local authority housing in Cork?

The Minister should keep in touch.

I do not know about internal troubles in Fianna Fáil in Cork.
