Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bay Pollution Tests.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number, location and results of pollution-level tests carried out by Dublin Corporation on the Dublin Bay coastline in the last year.

While the number, location and assessment of results of such tests are matters for Dublin Corporation, I understand that the monitoring of sea water in the area was carried out over the past year at Sandymount Strand, Bull Wall, two points on Dollymount Strand, Claremont Beach and three points at Howth Head, fortnightly in the summer and monthly in the winter. I understand that the corporation regard the results as generally satisfactory.

I understand that there are two drainage schemes in operation at present—the Dodder and the Canal. In view of the vast expansion of the subtowns which the corporation propose can we be assured that these new drainage schemes will mean that the pollution level of Dublin Bay will not worsen?

Any recommendation made by Dublin Corporation, who are very interested in preventing pollution, will receive favourable attention from me.
