Vol. 268 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

133.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the serious damage caused to fertile land along the Toon River, County Cork; and if he will state when drainage will be carried out.

Mr. Kenny

A drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for the Rivers Toon and Buingea has been investigated by the Commissioners of Public Works but because of other very urgent commitments throughout the country it is not possible to say when operations upon those rivers can be undertaken.

134.

andMr. J. Ryan asked the Minister for Finance the present position regarding the Mulcaire drainage scheme; and when it is expected that work will commence.

Mr. Kenny

A considerable amount of design work remains to be done before the necessary preliminary engineering report and estimate for the projected scheme for the Mulcaire catchment can be completed. In addition, it is most likely that when the preliminary report and estimate become available it will be found desirable to conduct a full cost/benefit study of the proposal. In the circumstances, it would not be possible at this stage to make any statement as to commencement of the works.
