As I have devolved responsibility for practically all their housing schemes to the local housing authorities, it is a matter for these authorities to decide the number of houses to be built by them in any given period, subject to their overall capital allocation and the agreed level of unit costs. According to progress reports submitted to my Department, Longford County Council had work in progress or schemes in tender for 65 houses and were preparing plans for 77 houses at 31st October, 1973. Longford Urban District Council had no schemes in progress or at planning stage at that date.
