Vol. 270 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Industrialisation.

34.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if an industry has been secured for the IDA advance factory at Rossmore Park, Monaghan.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the proposals the IDA have for the provision of new industries in County Monaghan.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 34 and 35 together.

I am informed that the Industrial Development Authority have approved a new industry to employ 50 persons in the advance factory now being completed in Monaghan town. Details of the project will be announced shortly.

The authority are also seeking land for industry in Castleblayney.

I made the point just now about the excess in County Monaghan. The jobs planned were 140 in 1973 and there were over 300 jobs in 1973 so I think there is some evidence of progress.

The Minister mentioned Castleblayney. Is he aware that the Ballybay-Clones area is as much in need of employment as the Castleblayney-Carrickmacross area which is fairly well industrialised?

My advice on this matter comes, of course from a source unlike the Deputy's, if that is his considered opinion, from people in the IDA, who are serious and expert people and who are using the available industrial inquiries and the resources they have got to spend to what they consider to be the best advantage of the areas in question. I am interested to have on the record the Deputy's opinion as to the relative merits of the different parts of the county.
