Vol. 271 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EIB Loans.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that this country is benefiting fully from loans made available by the EIB; the number of applications granted and the purpose of each; and the number of applications currently before the Bank and the purpose of each.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is "yes". The European Investment Bank has granted Ireland four loans totalling just over £15 million. These loans are for telecommunications development, the modernisation of sugar factories, the development of CIE's railway network and the construction of an animal feedstuffs plant.

Discussions are taking place with the bank on other projects for possible loans but the talks are confidential at this stage. Details will be announced as additional loans are granted by the bank.
