Vol. 272 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Official Receptions and Travel Costs.

26.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs (a) the cost of all official receptions given by him in the year ended 31st March 1974 and (b) the cost of all journeys outside the State made by him and officials of his Department since 31st March 1973.

: The cost of official receptions including luncheons and dinners hosted by me in 1973-74 was £18,102.

The Deputy will appreciate that virtually all official journeys undertaken by me and by officers of my Department are outside the State. Deducting the estimated cost of home travel within Ireland from the cost of all travel, the estimated cost of travel outside the State in 1973-74 based on the latest available figures was £280,000.

All I can say is that you are not worth it.

I thought the Deputy was about to say I was not working.

(Cavan): Many people would not exchange the Minister for what the Deputy has to offer.
