Vol. 272 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fish Conservation.

45.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the plans he has to protect fish stocks from oil pollution, industrial working and unregulated industrial development.

The Oil Pollution of the Sea Acts, 1956 and 1965, which are already in force, prohibit the pollution of the sea by oil from Irish ships or within Irish waters.

Is the Minister aware that there are contingency plans drawn up to deal with possible oil pollution in Clare, North Tipperary and such areas? Would the Minister consider drawing up similar plans to deal with the south and east coast where pollution is most likely?

I will have a look at it. I did not know that such plans existed.
