Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Industrialisation.

47.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether advance factories will be erected at Clifden and Oughterard, County Galway; and if he will make a statement in the matter.

48.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans for the establishment of industry in Clifden, County Galway.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans for the establishment of new industry at Oughterard, County Galway.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 47, 48 and 49 together.

I have been informed that the Industrial Development Authority are acquiring sites for industrial development purposes at Oughterard and Clifden. The site at Oughterard covers over four acres and that at Clifden about three acres.

The authority have also indicated that they plan to construct an advance factory of 10,000 sq. ft. at Clifden, work on which is expected to commence later this year.

These sites and the advance factory will be promoted to attract new industry with a view to achieving the target of 100 new manufacturing jobs in the Clifden-Oughterard area as set out in the regional plans 1973-77.

Could the Minister state whether a certain company whose directors originated in Chile were given an IDA grant on condition that they would establish an industry in Oughterard, County Galway, and that this has not been done to date, although 12 months or more has passed since this decision was made?

I have no information about that.

50.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans for the establishment of new industry at Letterfrack, County Galway.

51.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether there are any plans for the acquisition of former industrial school buildings at Letterfrack, County Galway, for industrial uses.

With the permission, of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

I have been informed that the Industrial Development Authority have not so far received any proposals to set up a new industry in Letterfrack. A number of industrialists have visited the area but nothing concrete has yet emerged.

The former industrial school has been inspected by technical officers of the IDA but the indications are that the building's use for manufacturing industry would be limited. I am getting in touch with other Ministers in the hope that some other use for it may be found.

52.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans for the establishment of new industry at Ballyconneely, County Galway.

53.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if there are any plans for the establishment of new industry at Cleggan, County Galway.

With the permission, of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 52 and 53 together.

I have been informed that the Industrial Development Authority are actively seeking a new industry for the former Atlantic Alginates factory in Ballyconneely, so far without success.

I understand also that the IDA are at an early stage of negotiation for a small industry project for Cleggan, the details of which are still confidential.
