Vol. 272 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Products Denaturing.

1.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether any denaturing activity has been carried out by his Department or any other Government agency since Ireland became a member of the EEC, a brief reference to which was contained in one of the six monthly reports to the Dáil on the EEC; and, if so, the type of denaturing activity involved and the amount of public money that has been spent upon it.

No denaturing of agricultural produce has been carried out by my Department or other Government agency. Some wheat and skim powder has been denatured by private firms for use as animal feed while a very small quantity of sugar has been denatured by Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann for use by beekeepers. These activities have been qualified for support from FEOGA but no assistance has been given from the Exchequer.
