Vol. 272 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beef Intervention Purchases.

2.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the quantity of meat bought into intervention since October last by his Department acting on behalf of the EEC Commission; and the expenses, if any, that were incurred by his Department which are not recoverable from the EEC.

From mid-October last up to 26th April approximately 12,500 tons of beef were bought into intervention by my Department as the Irish intervention agency.

Under EEC regulations provision is made for recoupment from EEC funds of the difference between the purchase and resale price of beef made by the intervention agency as well as certain handling and storage charges. The question of recovering additional charges incurred here is at present under discussion with the Commission.
