A competition was held by the Civil Service Commission last October, with a view to filling vacancies in the Department of Justice welfare services and providing a welfare officer for the Garda Síochána. No suitably qualified officer for the Garda Síochána became available as a result of that competition but it is hoped that one will become available as a result of a further competition due to be held by the commission this month.
