Vol. 274 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Dumping.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that, as a result of a slump in Britain at present, British manufacturers are concentrating on Ireland as a dumping ground for their products; and the plans, if any, he has to stop the unfair competition which results from this practice.

I am not so aware. The Deputy will appreciate that it is open to firms having evidence of dumping to take up the matter, either directly or through their trade association, with An Coimisiún Dumpála or with the EEC Commission. I am not aware that any complaints have been lodged with the EEC Commission. The number of complaints of dumping of UK goods received by An Coimisiún Dumpála in the first six months of 1974 was less than for the corresponding period of 1973.

I know a deputation has gone to the Minister's colleague, the Minister for Finance, from the Navan furniture industry outlining their anxiety, and I presume he has brought it to the Minister's attention.

The Deputy is making a statement instead of asking a simple supplementary question.

This is a source of great worry.

I appreciate that. I want to help the Deputy, but he must conform to standing orders.

Is the Minister so aware?

I am aware that these representations have been made, and, indeed, others, but I must point out that the question of the Navan furniture industry does not arise on Question No. 46; it did under the last one.
