I move:
That Dáil Éireann approves the following Order in draft:—
Royal Hospital for Incurables Dublin (Charter Amendment) Order, 1974.
a copy of which Order in draft form was laid before Dáil Éireann on 5th July, 1974.
As explained in the memorandum which accompanied the draft order circulated to Deputies, the managing committee of the Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin, applied for an Order to be made substituting "The Royal Hospital, Donnybrook" as the name of the hospital instead of "The Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin".
I do not think I need argue the case for the change in title. The word "incurables" is an emotive one which could very well be dropped, and indeed, as has been explained, the hospital wants to drop it.
I gladly avail myself of this opportunity to pay public tribute to the splendid work of the hospital management, staff and others associated with the work there. It is a remarkable achievement by any standards that, for over 200 years, a work of a charitable and compassionate nature has endured. I wish to commend and encourage those associated with the work to continue and persevere in their efforts.
The purpose of the Draft Order before the House is to provide for the legal change in the name of the hospital and I ask the House to approve it.
