At the Summit Conference in October, 1972, the EEC Commission were invited to prepare a preliminary programme of action in the field of consumer information and protection. The draft programme has been the subject of discussion at several meetings between member States at which Ireland has been represented. I am broadly in agreement with the aims and objectives of the programme as drafted, but the details have yet to be fully considered by the Council of Ministers.
